FÁS (National Training & Employment Authority)

FÁS provides a range of services to help people find work. These services are available to all individuals including the unemployed, persons wishing to return to work after a break, persons who have completed school or college and job-changers. All FÁS services are open to men and women equally and to all citizens of the European Union. The most important step to availing of FÁS services is to register at your local FAS Office at Unit 1, Kenmare Place, Killarney.

FÁS Employment Services Offices will provide career advice and guidance including information on job and training opportunities as well as temporary employment options.  For a list of current vacancies click here

The Service to Jobseekers section provides information on FÁS services to jobseekers including:  Placement Services, Training CoursesApprenticeships  and Community Employment programmes. (See the different headings on the left-hand side of this screen). A very large amount of information on careers is also presented in the Careers Information section.

Those considering working in Europe can obtain information on jobs and information on living/working conditions in EURES – European Placement.  Further information may be obtained from FÁS officials called Euroadvisers.

Support for Childcare Costs is now available through FÁS for people who wish to undertake vocational training.



Jobs Club

A wing of the Local Employment Service (LES), the Jobs Club offers training and support for people either entering or returning to the workforce.  Group training sessions are held to help you regain the confidence and skills necessary to successfully find work.  An allowance is paid on completion of the training session and social welfare payments will not be affected.

Local Employment Service (LES)

What can the Local Employment Service do for you?  They can provide information on jobs, careers, education and training which are available locally and nationally.  You have access to special advice and guidance to help you get a job by:

  • Exploring your skills and aptitudes, strengths and weaknesses

  • Providing information on and help to get a place on training and education courses and work experience

  • Setting you a realistic plan of action and supporting your decisions

  • Filling out application forms, preparing a C.V. and preparing for an interview.
