The Women’s Scheme under SKDP’s LEADER+ Programme offers the following supports:

·      Network Development Supports to enable the following women’s networks to engage in added-value and innovative management training: Banchara, South Kerry Women’s Association (SKWA), Killarney Women’s Organisation for Training and Empowerment (KWOTE), Kenmare Women’s Network. 

·      Supports available for facilitated training activities concerning the Beijing Platform 1995 and the Irish National Action Plan for Women.

·      Information, Promotion & Marketing supports available to Women’s Networks to promote assistance available to women in own areas.

·       Research Grants are available to women’s groups in S. Kerry to explore socio-economic issues that challenge and affect women living in the region. 

·       International Women’s Day 2003 - Supports are available to enable women’s groups to creatively celebrate International Women’s Day on 8th March 2003. 

·      Women in Business – are invited to apply for enterprise development supports in the areas of training, research & development, marketing, equipment and workspace enhancement by way renovation or construction. 

·       Women in Farming – are invited to apply for alternative on-farm enterprise development supports in the areas of training, research & development, marketing, equipment and workspace enhancement by way renovation or construction.

The LEADER + Programme aims to encourage and help rural actors to think about the longer-term potential of their area.  It seeks to encourage the implementation of integrated, high-quality, original strategies for sustainable development designed to encourage experimenting with new of:

  • Enhancing the natural and cultural heritage
  • Reinforcing the economic environment in order to contribute to job creation
  • Improving the organisational abilities of their community.

The South Kerry LEADER + Programme seeks to embrace an ‘added value theme’ by encouraging learning, network development and collective action among and between SMEs and community groups.  This learning should in turn assist in adding value to regional products and services.  This is further underpinned by addressing quality of life issues in order to raise standards and drive change in the South Kerry Region.

In addition, the Commission has identified two groups for priority attention, which it considers represents the key to the development of rural areas – WOMEN AND YOUNG PEOPLE.  The programme is aimed at project, which cannot benefit from existing assistance measures (e.g. KCEB, Bord Failte, etc.) and which are sustainable in and valuable in the rural area.

The Social Inclusion Programme supports the establishment and development of groups most experiencing disadvantage. This funding aims to help groups develop their role and structure, improve their capacity to participate on committees with local agencies etc.

  • Participation in conferences
  • Needs analysis, research, social analysis
  • Project evaluation
  • Community development projects

Community groups can submit applications to the partnership for funding under the following headings;

The role of Bord Bia is to act as a link between Irish Food and Drink suppliers and existing and potential customers.  Their objective is to develop export markets for Irish food and drink companies and to bring the taste of Irish food to more tables world-wide. They have an extensive and in-depth knowledge of Irish Food and Drink industry, which they are happy to share. They can provide you with details of exports, production, quality standards, health regulations and controls, and new developments in the industry. They can also act as a bridge, putting you in touch with companies appropriate to your areas of interest.

They are a client-based organisation and operate in partnership with all sectors of the agriculture and food industry and with rural development agencies. They have developed close alliances with research, advisory and training agencies throughout the world and are continuously seeking to expand their international contacts.

The aim of the Combat Poverty Agency is to promote a more just and inclusive society by working for the prevention and elimination of poverty and social exclusion. Their grant scheme provides funding to help anti-poverty groups put forward their ideas to policy makers and to contribute efectively to debate about policy on poverty related issues.  The scheme funds four types of activity with the potential to influence policy.  These are:

Training and skills development for influencing policy - Groups can train  members in the skills needed to understand how public policy is made and how they might contribute to it.
Conferences, Seminars and Publications
- Groups can run events that bring in policy makers and provide a forum for dialogue.  Groups can publish documents which will be circulated effectively so as to raise issues and reach policy makers.
Research or Evaluation
- Groups can carry out research that improves our knowledge about aspects of poverty and how they can be dealt with.  They can also evaluate the impact of actions to tackle poverty. 
Policy analysis and Promotion
- Groups can document their work and identify lessons for policy from it.  They can use this analysis to generate policy submissions or to promote the lessons to policy makers.

The grant can be used by the group to do the work itself or to contract temporarily with an expert to assist them to do the work.


CHILDMINDING DEVELOPMENT GRANTS

Under a new Initiative, being administered by Denise Quinlan, Childminding Advisory Officer with Kerry County Childcare Committee, Childminders are in a position to apply for up to €630 to develop the service that they offer. The Childminder will have to provide matching funding of €70. Existing or prospective childminders are eligible to apply for the Childminder Development Grants. The grant must be used for the purchase of small capital items such as; equipment; toys or minor adaptation costs to improve the quality of the service provided e.g. Fire blanket, Smoke alarm, First Aid kit, Outdoor play and safety equipment, books, appropriate toys etc.

In order to avail of the Childminder Development Grants childminders must fulfil the following criteria:

care for/intend caring for at least 3 children on a part-time basis or 1 child on full-time basis & 1 child on a part-time basis

complete a 10 hour Quality Awareness Programme or have completed an equivalent childcare training programme or be Notified to the Pre-school Inspection Team (if caring for 4 or more children excluding their own)

provide evidence of appropriate insurance

operate as a childminder for a minimum of two years following receipt of the grant.
